Web Development Tools: HTML editors can’t compete with Content Managment

As we start the process of moving our website onto Drupal, an interesting article emerges on the problems facing Dreamweaver.  I really like dreamweaver and have used it for over ten years (gosh). But this article hits the nail on the head; as website functionality improves at a dizzing pace, it gets harder and harder to keep up just by using Dreamweaver (navigation on the fly etc) and so on.  The interesting thing for me is where this will leave web development.  The article predicts a Klondike like opportunity for web developers.  I’d prefer that web design was so easy that focus was on the content instead.  Today no one cares about the format or technical structure of a Word document (unless it’s a docx file!), they care about the content.  It will be good when the website design is as easy as Word.

Why Dreamweaver is dying

Drupal is a wise choice. I completely agree, that with all these highly configurable open source CMSs popping up there is no need to use expensive and clunky software like Dreamweaver anymore. I am also a Dreamweaver veteran but the last few years have seen me switch to systems like Drupal, WordPress, Joomla. Great job with the site by the way. Content is king!
